Consulting attorney working to keep county in permit compliance

Legal fees for work required to address issues with the county’s federal 404 permit requirements regarding mitigation of the Tired Creek Lake project are mounting.
The Grady County commission recently retained the services of Laura W. Benz, who was instrumental in the county obtaining the required permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct the lake, to facilitate coordination with the Corps and consultants in various permit implementation tasks.
Last month, the county approved payment of $4,592 to Benz and on Tuesday night another invoice totaling $7,532 was unanimously approved.
“This is the last one of these, isn’t it?” Grady County Commissioner LaFaye Copeland asked.
Grady County Clerk Carrie Croy said it was the last “big” one, but not the last. Croy said the county is in the middle of the project and depending on how it continues would determine how many more invoices Benz would be submitting.
Benz is working to insure the county is in compliance with the requirements of its permit.
