Christmas Parade is postponed until next Tuesday night
With a strong probability of rain forecasted for Thursday and Thursday evening, Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce officials have decided to reschedule the annual Cairo Christmas Parade for Tuesday, Dec. 12 beginning at 7 p.m.
Chamber officials are in the process of notifying all of the registered participants and are encouraging everyone to make plans to take part next Tuesday.
“With rain chances between 50-60 percent and temps in the 40’s, those circumstances definitely are not ideal for a parade. The safety and health of participants and parade goers is at the top of the Chamber’s priority, thus the main reason for deciding to reschedule,” states Chamber Executive Director Sara Heady.
The same line-up time and same line-up spots will be preserved.
“Though this will be the first time in history, as far as we can recall, that the Christmas parade has been rescheduled, we have no doubt it will still be fantastic!” Heady added.
There are 94 entries including four bands that were registered to participate and chamber officials say they are hopeful that all of them will be able to take part Tuesday night.
This year’s parade theme is “It’s The Most Wonderful time of the Year.”
Bands scheduled to participate include the Grady County Middle School Bands, the Pelham High School Band, the Thomasville High School Band, and the Cairo High School Band.
A new feature offered by the chamber will be shuttles for children from the chamber office to their float or parade meeting spot.
Chamber Ambassadors will be piloting the shuttles and parents and guardians are required to speak with an Ambassador to arrange a shuttle and not just drop children off in the parking lot.
“It’s important that the adults speak with our Ambassadors and not just drop off their kids to catch a shuttle,” Heady said.
Chamber officials remind everyone that throwing candy or other items from a moving vehicle or float is prohibited during the Christmas Parade.
The parade steps off at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12.
